"My journey through medicinal chemistry and drug discovery – lessons learnt"
Dr. Peter Nussbaumer (WINGS4INNOVATION GmbH/Lead Discovery Center GmbH)
Peter has about 40 years of industry experience in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery starting his professional career at Sandoz/Novartis. For many years, he headed the Chemistry Department at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research in Vienna, Austria.
Since 2008, he is Managing Director at the Lead Discovery Center GmbH in Dortmund, Germany, a translational incubator operating at the interface of academia and industry; since 2019, he is also Managing Director of the Khanu Management GmbH in Dortmund and the wings4innovation GmbH in Vienna, Austria, both acting for KHAN Technology Transfer Fund, a financing vehicle to translate excellent basic research into professional drug development and commercialization.
Peter is member of several international scientific advisory boards and serves as advisor to private and public funding bodies. He is (co)author of more than 90 peer-reviewed publications and more than 35 patent applications, referee to various journals, and holds a Dr. degree in organic chemistry from the TU Wien.
Wir freuen uns, Dr. Peter Nussbaumer (Managing Director, Lead Discovery Center GmbH, Dortmund, Deutschland) dieses Jahr mit der Dieter Binder Lectureship on Medicinal Chemistry auszuzeichnen. Diese von Boehringer Ingelheim RCV GmbH & Co KG als Sponsor unterstützte Auszeichnung wird jährlich von der AG Medizinische Chemie der GÖCH verliehen.
Die Vorträge finden dieses Jahr an der Universität Innsbruck, der Johannes Kepler Universität Linz, der TU Graz und abschließend samt Preisverleihung an der TU Wien statt (Details siehe unten).
Die Lectureship geht auf Prof. Dieter Binder, Professor am Institut für Organische Chemie (heute: Institut für Angewandte Synthesechemie) an der TU Wien, zurück. Dieter Binder gelang es unter anderem wichtige Medikamente wie etwa das nicht steroidale Antirheumatikum, Lornoxicam auf den Markt zu bringen.
